A Brief History Of Eames Lounge Chairs

The Eames Lounge Chairs is officially known was Eames Lounge (670) and Ottoman (671), realeased in 1958 it was the first chair from the company made for a high-end market.

The Eames Lounge Chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 and made from Plywood, and leather material.

Designed in a modern style , it was sold by Herman Miller in the United States of America. Their original concept was to design a chair that was affordable, easily mass produced and at the same time a luxury item.

Elements of the design are three curved plywood shells covered with veneer, identically proportioned chair with back and headrest. While the three major elements are the backrest, headrest, back and seat.

A particular design has seven layers of plywood covered with finishing veneers , rosewood, walnut or cherry.

Through the years from 1956 to 2000 the chair has gone through subtle changes from the zippered cushion, color and shape of label.

Others are the removable skidder on the feet, metal gliders, hard plastic washers and sets of spacers between the aluminum spines.
